Challenge

Mature tree lined streets were obscuring the front externals of prime properties, making traditional landscape shots less effective as hero images. Agents struggled to showcase the property's curb appeal, which led to these images being underutilised in listings.

Results

Rather than using a standard landscape shot, we adopted a side-by-side portrait external approach capturing two vertical images and combining them to create a more dynamic and visually compelling hero image. This ensured the best features of the property were highlighted while working within space constraints.

"Switching to portrait externals as a photography preference completely transformed how we present our listings. The new combined hero images create a stronger first impression and help us stand out in a competitive market"

The Challenge

Many prime properties are situated on mature, tree lined streets or in areas where on street parking, narrow pavements, or other visual obstructions limit the effectiveness of traditional landscape external shots.

For these listings, capturing the full frontage of a home in a single wide-angle landscape shot often meant:

  • Trees, parked cars, or street furniture dominating the composition.
  • The architectural details of the façade being lost due to distortion or distance.
  • The property appearing less prominent on listing platforms, affecting first impressions.
  • Lower engagement rates on property portals, leading to fewer enquiries and slower viewings.

Agents found that despite the property's strong curb appeal, the images did not reflect the home's actual character and desirability. As a result, these properties underperformed compared to similar listings with clearer, more engaging external images.

Agents needed a new way to showcase these properties without losing impact or requiring excessive post production work.

The Solution

To overcome these limitations, Click implemented a Side-by-Side Portrait External approach, ensuring:

  • The front elevation could be captured in more detail while avoiding obstructions.
  • Key architectural elements (such as doorways, windows, and decorative features) were more prominently showcased.
  • The property felt more balanced and natural in listings, avoiding wide-angle distortion.

Instead of relying on a single landscape shot, we instructed photographers to capture two vertically oriented images that:

  1. Focused on the entrance and key architectural features.
  2. Provided a broader perspective of the full exterior.
  3. Were stitched together in post-production to create a seamless, engaging hero image.

This adjustment was integrated into Click’s Photo Preference System, automatically prompting photographers at the point of capture to apply the new approach for properties in affected areas.

The Results

Since implementing the Side-by-Side Portrait External approach, Savills has seen a noticeable improvement in listing performance. The clearer, more visually engaging hero images have resulted in a 21% higher click through rate on property portals, as prospective buyers and tenants are drawn to more balanced and aesthetically appealing front externals.

The consistency of execution has also been a key success factor. By integrating this capture method into Click’s Photo Preference System, photographers were automatically prompted to use this approach when photographing properties in relevant locations. This led to a 98% accuracy rate in delivering the updated style, ensuring that agents could rely on a uniform, high quality look across multiple listings.

These improvements have had a direct impact on engagement, with more prospective buyers interacting with listings earlier in the marketing process. The result? Stronger first impressions, faster viewings, and ultimately, better outcomes for vendors and agents alike.
